    Three weeks of Morocco handicrafts’ exhibition (with craftsmen/women showcasing how art craft products are made), fashion, gourmet tasting, live folk and Moroccan band music and inspiring lifestyle experience begins in Oslo from Tuesday.

    This is the first time such an event is taken place in Scandinavia following similar events in London (Harrods), Paris (Printemps, Gallery Lafayette) and Berlin (KaDeWe).

    The tradition of producing craft objects – that are visually pleasing and enlivened with decoration is a deeply rooted tradition among Moroccan craftsmen/women. Beauty is injected into the humblest of materials from leather, wood and clay to copper and wool.

    Craft products are those produced by artisans, either completely by hand, or with the help of hand tools or even mechanical means, as long as the direct manual contribution of the artisan remains the most substantial component of the finished product. These are produced using materials from sustainable resources, the statement reads.

    The special nature of artisanal products: artistic, creative, culturally attached, decorative, functional, traditional, socially symbolic and significant. Colorful, fancy, and diverse shapes and sizes.

    Each region in Morocco is known for a specific handicraft design. Fez and Marrakech are leaders in working with leather and iron as well as in pottery. Rabat, the capital, is known for its carpet. Essaouira is famous for its wood handicrafts.

    In order to involve and compete within the rapidly changing global market, Morocco preserves the authenticity of handicrafts products while improving the quality of crafts products, the protection of intellectual property and developing social and economic dimensions of craftsmen/women’s creation

    Morocco 2015 Vision of craftsmanship has been aiming at upgrading the craft sector based on this social-economic driven approach especially when it comes to generating employment among youth in the craft sector
