    Russia frees Ukraine pilot Nadiya Savchenko

    May 25, Moscow: Russia has freed jailed Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko on Wednesday after holding her for nearly two years. She was sentenced to 22 years in Jail for killing two Russian journalists.

    Russian President Vladimir Putin pardoning her as part of a swap for two Russian servicemen jailed in Ukraine.

    "I am free," Savchenko told a crowd of reporters and politicians as she arrived in Kiev as part of a prisoner swap with two alleged Russian agents.

    The two Russians - Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov  - were also freed on Wednesday, and Russian state television showed them being greeted at a Moscow airport by their wives.

    Savchenko was pardoned by Russian President Vladimir Putin before her return to Ukraine.

    Putin said he had acted after meeting relatives of the two Russian journalists, who had asked him to show mercy to Savchenko, reports said.
