Nobel literature prize awarded to Belarussian Alexievich
Oct.9, Geneva: This year's Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to Belarussian author Svetlana Alexievich. The prestigious award has been awarded for her portrayal of the harshness of life in the Soviet Union.
The Swedish Academy said that Alexievich's work, showed the monument of courage that portrayed lives of Soviet women during World War Two as well as the consequences of the 1986 nuclear disaster in Chernobyl and the Soviet military adventure in Afghanistan.
She had collected hundreds of interviews from people who were affected by events in the region.
Alexievich was born in Ukraine in 1948, and have lived in exile for many years because of her criticism of the Belarussian government and now have maintained a low profile after returning home four years ago.
