Mogadishu hotel in Somalia attacked by gunmen
Nov.1, Mogadishu: At least 15 people have been killed and dozens more injured in a suicide attack on a hotel in the Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
A car bomb exploded at the main gate of the Sahafi Hotel early on Sunday morning, with attackers then storming the hotel as they exchanged gunfire with security guards.
Several prominent people were among the injured including a journalist and local businessman in the hotel, which is popular with Somalia's members of parliament.
The al-Shabab armed group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that fighters from the al-Qaeda linked group had infiltrated the hotel after an explosion.
African Union troops and government forces said that they have regained control of the hotel after a fierce gun battle.
