Iraq: Suicide bombers in Taji gas plant leaves 12 dead

May 15, Sana’a: A suicide attack by Islamic State (IS) militants on a gas factory near Baghdad has killed at least 12 people and wounded many more, Iraqi officials said.

The officials said that Sunday's blast injured 17 others. The victims were policemen returning to work following last month's recapture of the city by forces of the internationally recognized government.

Six attackers wearing explosive vests then entered the plant and clashed with security forces, the officials say.

The port city has been held for more than a year by Yemen's local al-Qaida affiliate. The victims also included young men applying for jobs with the city's local police.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.
