Iran to be invited for next round talks on Syria conflict
Oct.28, Tehran: US State Department says Iran is to be invited to the international talks on Syria conflict with US and Russia. Iran is a key ally to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but participation of Iranian leaders is still unclear.
The international meeting will be participated by top envoys from the US, Russia, Arab and European nations in Vienna later this week.
Syria's Western-backed opposition and the US's Gulf Arab allies have long opposed Iran's role in the Syrian war.
US state department spokesman John Kirby told reporters that he expected Iran’s participation in the talks.
