Hurricane Matthew heads straight for Jamaica
Oct 1, Montego Bay: The most powerful hurricane in the Atlantic, Hurricane Matthew, is moving towards Jamaica with wind speeds of up to 260km/h (160mph).
According to weather forecasters the Hurricane Matthew has been upgraded to category five, the highest on the scale of intensity, as it can cause alot of damage. The storm is expected to hit the country by Monday.
Jamaica's palm-lined southern coast is expected to be hit first. The capital, Kingston, is located in the area, as is the country's only oil refinery.
According to local reports, the Jamaican PM Andrew Holness has called an urgent meeting of parliament to discuss hurricane preparedness, as officials have warned the strong winds could also batter the island's tourist areas including Montego Bay.
