EU approves action plan for Turkey, provide €3 billion
Oct.16, Ankara: EU states have approved an action plan for Turkey to ease the flow of migrants to Europe. European officials met on Brussels summit on Thursday agreed on visa liberalization for Turks to visit the Schengen area and to open new chapters in Turkey's EU accession negotiations.
In exchange Turkey had asked for €3 billion in aid, which EU states have been considering.
Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, said talks over the sum to be given to Ankara would continue with Turkish officials over the coming days.
Nearly 600,000 migrants have reached the EU by sea so far this year, many of them travelling from Turkey to Greece before seeking to head north.
