Death Toll in US storm rises to 26
Eight people have been reported dead in Texas after a new stream of tornadoes hit the state on Saturday.
According to the local media, five people had been blown off the motorway in their cars near Dallas and another three bodies have been found nearby, taking the death toll after a week of storms in the US to 26.
Officials have stated that Texas and Oklahoma could be hit by a "historic blizzard", stirring up 41cm of snow.The National Weather Service has confirmed that tornadoes had touched down near Dallas and several other towns. In the Mississippi, officials reported that 56 people had been injured and more than 400 houses had been destroyed or damaged in storms. "Over 20 tornadoes hit the state, knocking down trees and leaving thousands without power over Christmas holidays," a local media report stated.
