Award-winning book banned in New Zealand
Sept.7, Wellington: New Zealand has banned a award winning book for teenagers Into the Rivers by Ted Dawe. The restriction is first such kind in 20 years, after New Zealand's Film and Literature Board of Review received a complaint about the novel's sexual content and descriptions of teenage drug-taking.
A lobby group Family First sought the complaint, to put the restriction. The order took effect when it was issued on September 3 and applies until the full board meets to decide on a permanent classification for the book possible by the end of September.
The interim order means the book cannot be sold or passed on to friends.
The book is still on sale on Amazon at US$24.99 in paperback or US$9.99 on Kindle.
