Aung San Suu Kyi reduces her own ministerial duties
April 4, Naypyidaw: Aung San Suu Kyi has reduced the number of ministries that she will be running in Myanmar's new government.
According to reports she will not take over the education and energy portfolios, but will still be foreign minister and minister in the president's office. Similarly, the parliament has proposed that she also become "state counsellor", a new position similar to prime minister.
National League for Democracy (NLD) took over last Wednesday and though she is the head of the winning party she has been barred from becoming president, because of her children's foreign citizenship. She has, therefore vowed to run the country from behind the scenes through her trusted ally President Htin Kyaw.
Despite Suu Kyi's unofficial power, her relations with the powerful military will still be crucial according to political analysts.
