'Old Wives Tales' that aren't tales at all

Remember how your Grandma would always make you chicken soup whenever you caught the cold, or when she would hand you chocolates every time you complained of premenstrual cramps. Though back there were times I never understood the logic behind chicken soup an chocolates helping to ease symptoms of cold and menstrual cramps, researchers have found that these old wives tales to be true.

According to researchers chicken soup though it doesn’t cure your cold it defiantly eases the symptom making you feel a whole lot better as studies show that good old chicken soup reduces inflammation by slowing down the white blood cell activity which is responsible for causing inflammation, hence soothing the symptoms and instantly helping you feel better.

Similarly, according to studies chocolate contains nutrients and antioxidants such as anandamide, which can have a calming effect, and keep anxiety and moods in balance. So you don’t need to feel guilty about having a chocolate while you are PMSing. Funny how correct my granny had been correct.

Here are three more old wives tales that have been proven as scientifically true:

    Cheese gives you weird dreams:
I love pizzas extra cheesy pizzas are my favorite quick meal, however have cheese at dinner just doesn’t seem to do my sleeping habit good, it's no wonder  granny would always complain if we had pizzas for dinner, cheese give you nightmares she would say. And studies have shown that cheese in fact does give you weird dreams.  British Cheese Board claims to have proven this old wives tale as  real. The board surveyed 200 volunteers who ate a variety of cheeses before bedtime, and reported that most of them recorded peculiar dreams the day afterward. Apparently such studies suggest that it’s the bacterial and fungal elements of cheese which contain psychoactive ingredients that affect dreams. BUT this doesn’t mean all cheese-induced dreams will be scary, some can be pretty weird.

    Honey helps heal colds
Honey has long been used as medication, for colds, according to studies this home remedy forms a mucous membrane that soothes the irritation in an infected area.Honey apparently is also antibacterial;  and can heal wounds and reduce infection. So a spoonful of honey makes the cold go away in the most delightful way.

    Fish is Brain food
Oily fish contain omega 3 fatty acids which are considered really good for brain development in children and so the old wives' tale that fish is "brain food." Is true because the fatty acids, such as omega-3s, in fish are thought to improve the conductivity between brain cells, raising brain performance.
